A Post-Doc position in the field of Economics of Education (including the Economic History of Education) or Sociology of Education is available at the University of Tübingen, in the interdisciplinary Graduate School “Learning, Educational Achievement, and Life Course Development” (LEAD). LEAD is funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments. One group within LEAD is composed of economists, sociologists and economic historians, therefore economic historians’ applications are welcome as well.
Not only the interdisciplinary work will be important for this position, but also the disciplinary aspects of performing new economic history research and publishing in journals of the field. The details of the position are in the application form included below.
One of the topics of study could be the development of social differences of education: how did social differences of education develop in the past? Do historical developments have an influence until today?
The University Tübingen features an active research group of economic historians that focuses on long run trends in education and human capital formation, especially on numeracy trends. Therefore discussions with psychologists and economists are possible, as well as interaction and joint work with economic historians.

Junior Research Group Leader (TV-L 14) in the field of
Sociology of Education or Economics of Education
funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments.
In contributing to the interdisciplinary setup of the LEAD Graduate School (see www.lead.uni-tuebingen.de ), the successful candidate is expected to develop a cutting-edge research agenda in the field of Sociology of Education or Economics of Education, to start collaborative projects with researchers from the education sciences and other disciplines within LEAD, and to engage in international networking activities as part of the LEAD research and training program. The LEAD Graduate School offers a stimulating and supportive work environment with a highly productive, internationally-oriented research team.
The successful candidate holds an excellent PhD in either sociology, economics or a re-lated field.
For this position, previous experience with interdisciplinary research as well as a strong interest and open-mindedness with respect to building interdisciplinary links with edu-cation sciences are highly welcome. Moreover, the successful candidate will be expected to co-supervise doctoral students working in the intersection of her/his respective disciplines and in education sciences. Contributions to the LEAD research program by ac-quiring supplementary third-party funds are expected.
We are offering a full-time position until October 31, 2017 at the German public salary scale E 14 TV-L, starting as soon as possible. The teaching load is anticipated to be one course per semester (in English).
