CFP. Workshop for New Scholars in Financial History

eabh (The European Association for Banking and Financial History e.V.) and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invite the submission of research papers from advanced PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in banking, insurance and financial history for a New Scholars Workshop on 9-10 March 2015 in Brussels.

In line with past workshops in Zurich (2010), Rotterdam (2011), Bordeaux (2012), Jerusalem (2013), Belfast (2014), this workshop is specifically intended for new scholars in financial history, broadly defined, who wish to practice and improve their research through presentation and discussion with more experienced scholars. This year’s edition will see the participation of Kris Mitchener, the Robert and Susan Finocchio Professor of Economics at Santa Clara University. Participants will also benefit from feedback on their work from Kim Oosterlinck and other faculty members from ULB.

Participants who have completed a full research paper, and/or have submitted their paper to a leading journal in business, economic or financial history are particularly encouraged to apply. Papers in all fields of financial and banking history are welcome. Comparative approaches are encouraged and co-authored papers are accepted.

eabh supports research into all aspects of banking, insurance and financial history, from the earliest innovations in the Middle Ages, to developments since the Industrial Revolution and the present. Its journal, the Financial History Review, is published by Cambridge University Press and edited by Professor Stefano Battilossi, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and Rui Esteves, University of Oxford.

Selected students whose institutions will not be able to support their travels can request partial funding from eabh. Partial funding includes two nights stay at a selected hotel. Flights can be supported up to 150€. Please contact: info@bankinghistory.de for details.

Deadline: Prospective participants should send their full paper toc.hofmann@bankinghistory.de by 7 January 2015 and include a full CV, which clearly states the (expected) date of PhD completion. Notice of acceptance will be given by 19 January 2015.
